The history of Myth III is a tragically long one. Released in October of 2001, Myth III was intended to modernize the Myth engine, bringing 3D models and units into an improved graphics engine. Unfortunately the game was released before it had been fully developed and then consequently abandoned by the publisher and developer. This left the game in an unfinished state and was crippled to the point of being unplayable.

A group of developers from within the Myth community stepped forward to volunteer to make the technological and creative repairs to the game which would enable it to be enjoyed by those who had purchased the game. While not "officially" supporting the game the community of developers, then known as MythDev, patched hundreds of bugs, game play issues and general annoyances to the game.

The results of these efforts are available on this page. For now you will need your original Myth III install disc from which to install the game and then patch using the download links below. A complete list of fixes and changes are contained in a document that is part of the download. Tech: Myth III is current built in a combination of pure C and C++. It compiles with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and XCode for Mac OS X (using 10.4 libraries). The libraries used to build the engine complete with interface are undergoing through a bit of a transformation, but the current process is to convert things to SDL. It renders using OpenGL technology.

Update: Myth III is currently being developed for version 1.4. It will feature numerous changes and improvements. There is no current timetable for release, but as soon as things are closer to how we want them, we will be offering weekly download snapshots.
